Father's Day is now a widely known celebration in many countries to honour your father and the influence of fathers in society. Although Father’s Day does not share the same historical significance of Mothers Day the results are more or less the same with children giving their fathers gifts and kind words in a card.

In the USA it took many campaigns and many decades before Fathers Day was recognised as an official event. A bill to accord national recognition of a day honouring fathers was introduced to Congress in 1913 but Congress resisted, fearing that it would become commercialized and that it was a first step to filling the calendar with mindless promotions. In 1966, President Lyndon B. Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation honouring fathers, designating the third Sunday in June as Father's Day.The day was made a permanent national holiday when President Richard Nixon signed it into law in 1972. Although the date can vary in different regions of the world many countries, including the United Kingdom, Celebrate Father’s Day on the third Sunday in June.

Father’s Day 2011 is on Sunday June 19^th.
