The House That Moved is one of the most famous of Exeter's Tudor buildings - its main claim to fame being that, as the name suggests, it was actually moved from its original position to make way for a new inner city bypass in 1961!
This sixteenth - century double - jettied construction, formerly known as Merchant House, was schedualed for demoltition, but campaigners successfully persuaded Exeter City Council that it is worthy of being saved. Remarkably the City Council opted to spend £10,000 to have it moved - in one piece!
