The stirring history of the clan known as "the wild MacRaes" because of their warring nature. Their founders fled from Ireland after a violent bust up only to have a baptism of fire on Scottish soil. Later, big Duncan MacRae cut down dozens of MacDonalds in a single afternoon with a rusty axe. Clansmen fought to the death in the Jacobite rebellions and took key roles in other theatres of war. They forged a close alliance with the Mackenzies and were centre stage as Scotland's history was being written. Despite their reputation for ferocity, the MacRaes also produced many sons and daughters who were gifted in the arts and in the early 20th century the ruins of ancient Eilean Donan were restored by clansmen to create the most beautiful castle in Scotland. Here is the exciting history of the MacRaes in all its enthralling detail.

This little book contains, where available, the clan motto, crest and tartan, in addition to the history of the name.
